5 Hunting Activities to Keep You Ready For Fall

Summertime is like Algebra class – just get through it and something better’s on the other side. Summer is a tough season for the hunter, but if we can just bide our time we’ll be in the cool breezes of fall before we know it. Here are some things to do during summer that will make the season blow through like a thunderstorm.

Book a hog hunt.

Yep, you need to practice your shooting through the summer, but sweating it out is so much more fun when you’re doing it for a live animal. Pig hunts are some of the least expensive hunts you can buy, and give you more motivation to keep practicing when sweat runs into your eyes.

Use the internet to locate an inexpensive hunt near you. Normally you pay a small price for the chance at a very wary – and tasty -- game animal.

Create a food plot.

Head to your hunting land or lease and put in a food plot for your fall hunting pleasure. You no longer need a tractor to turn dirt – your ATV is ample with the help of Summit ATV food plot products.

Do yourself a favor, though, and get a soil sample done. It will tell you what you need to do to the dirt prior to planting.

Find a new stand.

Now’s the time to put up a new stand in that area where you know a big buck lives. Trim your shooting lanes and take a few shots from your new stand to ensure you’re ready when opening morning comes.

Also, don’t forget to mark a trail into the new stand. Trim a trail so you make minimal noise during those early morning treks.

Upgrade your equipment.

Now’s the time to put on that new bowsight while there’s plenty of time to get accustomed to it. Tune your bow while you’re at it. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself, go to you local bowshop for help.

Practice your calling.

Just because it’s 101 degrees outside doesn’t mean you should leave your calls hanging by the gun cabinet. Get an audio cd of waterfowl or geese and imitate them until the wife kicks you out of the house.
